News: An Introduction to LEGO Ideas

If you were following news about the toy industry earlier this year, you probably recall the announcements about LEGO’s tremendous financial success. One of the reasons that LEGO enjoys such popularity is that the company actively engages with its customers, and the Ideas program is one of the more intriguing ways it accomplishes this.

If you aren’t familiar with LEGO’s Ideas, you can read all the details on their How it Works page. The basic idea is that you (yes, you!) submit your idea for a kit. If 10,000 people support it within a set period of time, LEGO will officially review your idea to see if it can be productized for general distribution. Some of the kits that have made it through this process include the Research Institute (21110), the Exo Suit (21109), and the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters, which we reviewed for you already.

Even if you have no ambition to turn your own creations into actual LEGO products, you may enjoy browsing the Ideas site. Here are a few images of some of our favourites.

The “Bus” from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The Imperial Hot Tub that appears in the LEGO Star Wars game.

This homage to the Concorde, the world’s first super-sonic passenger jet.

And, of course, the Adam West Batman from the 1960’s.

Happy building!
